Hi! My name is Jay Shaffer, and I'll take a quick moment to tell you how Shaffer RV came to be. I'm originally from Texas, and grew up on a working farm outside of Cleburne, which is south of Ft. Worth a short ways. I spent some time at Angelo State University in west Texas, and then worked in optical sales for a few years in Austin.
In 1997 I moved to Bellingham with some friends for a change of scenery, never having traveled outside of Texas, and was a Washingtonian at heart forever after. After attending the tech school here, I moved back to Texas to work for Dell Computer Corporation for a couple of years.
I found that I desired to do something more 'hands-on', left Dell, and spent a year modifying and restoring Mazda rotary-engined RX7's in Cleburne, Texas. The last six months I was in Texas I also worked for the local John Deere dealer as a service rep. By this time I was getting tired of getting cooked every summer and missed the water, and so I moved back to Bellingham.
I walked into one of the two RV shops in Bellingham at the time looking for parts, they needed a Parts Manager, and I've worked in the RV industry ever since. After working there for three and a half years, I went to work for the other shop for a couple of months, and in the end felt it was time for me to open Shaffer RV.
